Hauling and Chopping Wood

It's amazing what kids will take a shine to.  A few days ago we spent an afternoon at my mom's place hauling wood into a pile - and the kids begged to cut it with an axe.  We reviewed some basic safety rules and then let them go to town.   Is it possibly dangerous?  Yes.  But kids love learning real skills.  Somehow a plastic axe on a fake log just wouldn't be the same.

So instead of watching Oprah and using my exercise machine, I was out in the fresh air moving fallen tree limbs.  I even got mom to saddle up and ride her horse. Not bad for an afternoon.

To me, this is homeschooling at it's best.  Technically it was "after school" but probably the best part of our day.

Transom window

The full transom window laid out

This is what I call the "jigsaw puzzle" stage

I'm on the finishing stages of a transom window and I can't wait to see it installed!  The window will be in their kitchen, but it's open to the dining and living room, too.  It's my own design created specifically for this couple so I've only seen in in my head and in my preliminary drawings.

The colors were picked to go with her favorite color of blue, and his favorite of red.   The gray and white are to keep in simple, not overpowering to enhance their living space without overpowering.  And besides, they love the neutrals, too.
